Agility and CGC classes in Dallas?

Hi all - Now that we’ve arrived in Dallas, I’d really love to get Gus back on track with his training. He made it through puppy, basic obedience, and one CGC class back in Pittsburgh (he didn’t pass the exam on the first try, but we’ll keep trying!). I think he’d be great at agility, so I’d like to get him enrolled in a beginner agility class too. Any dog training schools you all recommend in DFW area?

Mondays schmondays. I’m sleeping in. (Notice how he lined up his bully and dental chew right by his head so he can resume chewing immediately upon waking).

adventuringinpoliscigirl:

So today, my breeder contacted me, telling me that because several families dropped off their waiting list, I will have a new stumpy friend the first week of August. What I need from you guys is a list of the MUST HAVES for bringing my little guy home. I’ve had dogs…

Congrats! I’d say perhaps the most important thing you can do to prepare is decide what you want to train right off the bat. If you’re co-parenting, make sure you and the other person are on the same page. This will make things easier for you and won’t confuse your baby. I recommend reading Ian Dunbar. His books are old but really short and a great intro to positive reinforcement training. Also, many are available as free downloads.

Aside from that, stock up on good quality puppy food, lots of soft treats, Kongs, a couple leashes (a 4 or 6 ft and a 15 ft or longer), an xpen, a crate (and I recommend a crate cover too…my corg likes dark spaces…maybe he’s weird), bitter apple spray, paw wipes, microfiber towels for quick dry-offs, a snap collar, tags, decide on pet insurance (we use Healthy Paws), decide on whether you’ll micro-chip, make a vet appt, research walkers and sitters or daycares, research trainers (many will start working with puppies as young as 9-12 wks).

You’ll have a blast and your puppy will grow up so fast! So on that note, make sure you take a ton of pictures. And post them so we can freak out over your puppy too.
